Book Recommendation: Designing with Type
At my latest shopping spree at Memory Lane purchased the book, Designing with Type from Autumn Leaves. I barely had any time to look through the book in the store (with my 2 year old wanting to explore on her own - which is never a good thing in a scrapbooking store!).
I got the book home, and was delighted to see it was all that I hoped it would be, and more! With digital scrapbooking I’m at the stage where I understand how to use Photoshop to do some things reasonably well, but yet if I try to do something without a kit that someone else has prepared, I feel lost. And worse - I don’t have much of a clue on how to accomplish what I see so clearly in my head…
This book solves a lot of that. Although a pure beginner might find the lack of exact instructructions frustrating, it does give over 100 pages of sample layouts - with clear descriptions of the steps that they took to lay out the type on each page.
I can’t wait to try it out. The funny part is that I’m going to need to buy a better printer if I’m going to be using type that I print directly. So far, I’ve only used my computer to touch up photos or do 100% digital layouts that I have printed at traditional photo processing labs.
So - this book may be what pushes me over the hump in buying a decent printer. My husband will be thrilled. heh heh.
